A vaginal yeast infection, also known as candidal vulvovaginitis, is an imbalance of Candida yeast inside the body. Normally the presence of Candida, a common type of fungus, doesn't trigger health issues. But when it's overgrown, it can cause itching and discharge in the vaginal area.
